Community grows stronger when people gather, listen to one another, and reflect on the values that shape everyday life.

During a recent gathering at the Lived Experiences Community Center in Oceanside, participants of different ages and backgrounds came together for a thoughtful conversation about the power of our words. We explored how gossip and backbiting can damage relationships, why it is important to recognize our own imperfections, and how looking for the good in others can strengthen our community.

Everyone was invited to share their thoughts and experiences in a welcoming environment. The goal was not for everyone to think alike, but to listen respectfully, learn from different perspectives, and consider how these ideas could be applied at home, at work, and throughout our neighborhoods.

We also shared refreshments and enjoyed the simple but meaningful experience of breaking bread together. Gathering around a table helps people relax, connect, and see one another not as strangers, but as neighbors and friends. Food nourishes the body, while sincere conversation and companionship can nourish our sense of belonging.
Moments like these remind us that building community does not always begin with a large event. Sometimes it begins around a table—with shared food, a meaningful question, and a willingness to listen with kindness and understanding.
We gather at the Lived Experiences Community Center most Saturdays at approximately 10:00 a.m. To learn more about this or other activities at the center, call (442) 266-2083.
